Go Where You Go (Georgia Tech)

It’s been a longgggg time since I’ve last checked in on Argyle Report to talk about Tar Heel football. Too long! Let’s examine what’s happened since.

Carolina won their home opener in a well-rounded game against Pitt, then promptly got trounced by Miami. They lost two games they easily could’ve won against Virginia Tech and Syracuse, and are fresh off a return from UVA with another loss. We’ve seen brief moments from quarterbacks Chazz Surratt and Cade Fortin before both went down with injuries, as well as the good side and bad side of junior quarterback Nathan Elliott.

All of that lands UNC at 1-6 and desperate for some home-field love, after spending three of their last four games on the road. They’ll make it up by playing three of their last four games of the season in Kenan, starting this weekend with homecoming against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech and Paul Johnson, however, are looking as formidable as ever. They’re coming off a win against Virginia Tech where they gashed the Hokies for 465 rushing yards and 49 points. The Yellow Jackets passed the ball once -- just once! -- the entire game, finding plenty of success against their opponent’s defensive line.

The Tar Heels should expect something like this against them on Saturday. Carolina has been better as stopping rushing attacks this season, but they’re not a great defensive team on third downs. They’ll need to stand tall and (literally) pry the ball out of Georgia Tech’s hands to make sure the UNC offense has time to go to work.

It’s the first home game since that electric night game against Virginia Tech, and despite the team’s record, let’s hope the same energy carries over for homecoming! Here’s your game day guide to keep your Carolina spirits high on Saturday:
