C Jackson Cowart will become the editor-in-chief of Argyle Report, President of Argyle Creative Media Turner Walston announced on Tuesday.
Cowart will be responsible for editorial tone, staff management, assigning and editing stories and university relations. A senior reporting major at Carolina, Cowart served as associate editor at Argyle Report since the site's launch after spending a year as sports editor at The Daily Tar Heel.
"From the day Turner approached me about the formation of Argyle Report, I felt like this could be something special," Cowart said. "I couldn't have imagined how quickly it would resonate with readers and staff alike. It's a brand like no other, and we're only getting started."
Walston, who launched Argyle Report in August 2017, will stay on as an advisor and occasional contributor. “I am thrilled to name Jackson editor-in-chief,” Walston said. “His contributions to date have been invaluable, and he has been instrumental in setting a vision for Argyle Report. I am excited to see where he can take the site moving forward.”
With this announcement, Argyle Report intends to implement a plan of succession so that the site can become primarily student-run with student-driven content.
“Argyle Report is not about me,” Walston said. “It initially began as a platform for my own writing, but the site quickly grew into something much more, a place for Carolina students to gain writing and photography experience and to tell the stories of Carolina athletics.”
