During his career at UNC, Mitchell Trubisky started in only 13 games. But the Chicago Bears still took Trubisky with the No. 2 pick in April's NFL draft. On Thursday, the former Tar Heel quarterback took the field for his preseason debut in the Bears’ opening preseason game against the Denver Broncos.
In his first NFL drive, Trubisky went 4-for-4 for 24 yards with a completed touchdown pass to Victor Cruz. The Chicago quarterback completed his first 10 attempts and finished 18-for-25 for 166 passing yards, 38 rushing yards and that touchdown pass. The Bears lost, but Trubisky won the night on social media.
Here’s how Trubisky's night unfolded, as told through Twitter:
First, former N.C. State quarterback Mike Glennon — a free-agent signing and presumptive starter for the Bears — threw an interception on his second attempt of the game.
Then, late in the first half, enter Trubisky.
Cue up the preseason hot takes.
Even the Argyle Report staff wasn't immune...
Former NFL star Michael Vick was impressed by Trubisky's debut.
And Trubisky's old teammates lauded the former UNC signal-caller, too.
Not a bad night for the rookie.
