Men’s Soccer falls in College Cup

Carolina men’s soccer fell to Indiana, 1-0, in the College Cup in Chester, Pennsylvania. Though the Tar Heels controlled the run of play in the first half, they were unable to find the back of the net behind Hoosier goalie Trey Muse.

The Tar Heels’ best chance in the first half came on a sprint-out from Alan Winn, however he was unable to find a shooting angle and the attack was short-circuited by an offside call.

Early in the second half, Indiana drew a corner, and Andrew Gutman slid a shot past Carolina’s James Pyle for the only score of the game. The Tar Heels had chances with pressure up following the Hoosier goal, chief among them an attempt from Cam Lindley, but ultimately fell short.

Carolina’s season ends at 17-4-1, and on the college game’s grandest stage. Though the program bids farewell to a decorated senior class, the team should be poised to make another run in 2018, based in a new Fetzer Field.
