Carolina 73, Wake Forest 69

North Carolina men’s basketball used a late run to earn a tight win over Wake Forest in the Tar Heels’ ACC opener and the final game of 2017.

With 2:23 to play, the Demon Deacons’ Bryant Crawford hit a jumper that gave the visitors a 69-65 lead. After Carolina answered —Theo Pinson hauled in an offensive rebound and then found Luke Maye for a lay-up— Roy Williams called timeout, and ‘Jump Around’ played on the PA.

Wake Forest could not get a basket out of the timeout, despite three-point opportunities by Brandon Childress and Bryant Crawford. Pinson was fouled on the rebound and tied the game at the line.

Finally after a Doral Moore - more on him to come - miss at the free throw line, Joel Berry got aggressive and floated a shot over the 7’1 Moore for the go-ahead basket. Keyshawn Woods got a good look at a potential game-winner from three, but Kenny Williams made a pair of free throws after getting fouled on the rebound.

Carolina travels to Florida State Wednesday evening. More to come on this game right here at Argyle Report.
