It's Christmas Eve, everyone. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Boxing Day and Happy New Year. We are so grateful for your support through our first six months. Argyle Report continues to grow and find an audience, and we are overwhelmed by the response.
Things will be a little slow around here over the next few days, with us traveling and the Tar Heel teams getting a much-needed break. Argyle A.M. will be off until Thursday, FYI, so when you don't get it in your inbox early in the week, there's no need to panic.
As much as I enjoyed Will's column about 'The Christmas Shoes,' I couldn't let that be on the front page over Christmas. So I made a quick Christmas playlist today for you to enjoy, with some of my favorite tunes. I'll embed the Spotify code below and add a few notes.
1. Christmas Treat - Julian Casablancas
You will probably recognize this song from Saturday Night Live. The Strokes' lead singer brings the rock.
2. Put The Lights On The Tree - Sufjan Stevens
Sufjan (pronounced Soof-yon) has released ten albums' worth of Christmas songs. If I could only pick one, this would be it.
3. Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town - Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
I just love the banter at the beginning.
4. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Darlene Love
Remember when Darlene Love came on Late Night with David Letterman to perform this song every year at Christmas? I do.
5. Run Rudolph Run
Because my favorite movie of all time is Home Alone.
6. Christmas Time Is Here - Vince Guaraldi Trio
A stone-cold classic.
7. Santa Bring My Baby Back (To Me) - Elvis Presley
When I was in third grade, I dressed up like Elvis, mimed strumming a guitar and sang this song at the assembly. I was terrified, but a kindly teacher gave me one of the greatest pep talks of my life.
And the rest. I gotta go to Christmas Eve service. What else do you love? Let me know in the comments below!
