As an eighth-ranked and undefeated Miami team, angry about the past two meetings with the Tar Heels, rolls into Kenan Stadium this weekend, be sure to get your tickets to see the Marching Tar Heels collaborate with campus groups, perform and deliver a show dedicated to the American circus.
All jokes aside, it’s games like these about which are tough to remain optimistic, especially after last Saturday’s game in Blacksburg was – um – cancelled. But, hear me out: If the ball can bounce a favorable way for the Tar Heels a few times, one or two Walter Davis-esque miracles occur and Freeman Jones can channel some of that wonderful Weiler wizardry, then expect a Tar Heel victory, followed by absolute chaos Saturday night in Chapel Hill.
But, more realistically – I presume – we can only look to Turner Walston to prepare us for tomorrow’s game:
Here’s your gameday schedule:
9:00am – Tar Heel Town
Make your way to Polk Place, or UNC’s main academic quad, for food, music and games. If you can find a spot early enough, it’s a pretty great place to set up your tailgate! While you’re taking in the Carolina atmosphere between Wilson Library and the Old South Building, look for Rameses, who will be in the nearby Kenan Amphitheatre signing autographs and taking pictures.
9:30am – Victory Walk Pep Rally
After spending the morning in Tar Heel Town, make your way down to Bell Tower Park and the Kenan Amphitheatre, located just outside of Genome Science Building. The team will walk through the park on their way into the stadium, greeted by the band, cheerleaders and fans. Be sure to arrive early to grab a great spot on the path! Afterward, make sure to make your way back up to Tar Heel Town for more activities, including the live broadcast of the Countdown to Kickoff radio show.
10:30am – UNC Drumline Performance in the Pit
Other than the game itself, this, by far, is my favorite part of any game day. Per usual, the UNC Drumline has outdone itself and their cadences will not disappoint. Dance with the rest of the band or just sit back and listen!
11:00am – School songs on the quad
Make your way back over to Polk Place. First, you’ll hear a chorus of trumpets and tubas performing on the steps of Dey Hall. Just afterward, you’ll hear an onslaught of Carolina-devoted music and a little bit of friendly trash talk.
11:45am – Pregame Performance
Be sure to arrive early enough to get your seats to watch The Marching Tar Heels, the UNC Cheerleaders and the UNC Dance Team welcome the football players onto the field.
12:00pm – Football!
Go cheer the Heels to victory! Be sure to stay in your seats at halftime as the Marching Tar Heels dedicate a show to the Barnum & Bailey circus, featuring a rare campus unicyclist.
After the game, stay long enough to sing along to “Carolina Victory,” “Hark the Sound” and James Taylor’s “Carolina in My Mind.”
Above all, Go Heels and beat Miami!
